What is 'Tap Tone Technology?"
...Tap Tone Technology is the skill to make or adjust a violin family instrument so that the various parts of the instrument work acoustically together to produce the best tone and power possible.
...Tap Tone is defined as the base frequency generated with a gentle tap with an appropriate tapping tool in the correct direction and place on the violin part in quesiton.
...Tap Tone Technology is the body of knowledge developed over time and research and much testing, that allows these adjustment to be made.

...Some few examples that illustrate the potential of this technology that we may all be aquainted with....
...If you pluck across the tuned strings of an instrument in the center of the string length, listening to the quality of the tone generated. Do all the strings produce the same level of beauty?
..Perhaps none of the strings are particularly fine in tone...
..Perhaps there is one string that is clearly superior to the others.

... As a proof of bridge tuning via tap tone technology; Tap down gently on the top of the bridge on the various strings, listening to each tap tone result and comparing in your mind. Are they the same or is the tap tone of the superior string different than the others.
...Now gently tap down again on the 'good' string and then immediately tap the center of the back plate (where lines would meet from the four corners of the side bouts). Tap the bridge location three times, then immediately gently tap the back plate location as described. I believe you will discover that the two tap tones agree.
...Then tap the top of the bridge over the inferior toned strings in the same way, followed by the back plate tap as described, listening to the difference up or down.
...The reason the one string is richer in tone is that it most closely agrees with the center of the back plate tap tone.
...Notes played on the superior string will sound better to the listener and notes played on the inferior strings will sound at less than their full potential to the listener.
...The problem and solution are now known and the specific instruction will be given in a following article shortly.
